Toronto, Canada (PRWEB) April 19, 2008
NBS Technologies Inc., a worldwide leader in desktop card printing solutions, today, through its Javelin business unit, launched the Javelin® J100i, a single-sided, single-card color printer, the latest addition to its Value class of card printers. This budget-friendly printer produces single-sided full color or monochrome cards and offers a variety of optional features not typically available in a product in this class, such as Ethernet connectivity and Smart Card encoding. In a matter of seconds, the J100i can print and/or encode plastic cards for a variety of applications.
The new card printer addresses key industries that require advanced smart card and magnetic stripe encoding such as the financial, banking, hospitality, recreation and retail. Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) for lower volume card personalization applications is driving the need for a lower initial capital outlay in order to achieve a positive return-on-investment (ROI). UbiQ®, NBS's software development group, has developed a remote and branch solution that can team up with the new J100i to deliver affordable, high-end smart card technology card personalization at branch level.
"Many of our customers will benefit from having a single feed solution card printer," explains Philip Barton, general manager of NBS's Javelin business unit. "That's because the demand for card-type flexibility is on the rise as businesses are segmenting their customer bases, offering different rewards to varying customers, such as silver, gold and platinum card holders, or offering more customers more choice, as with different gift card designs. Thus, the card printer needs to be able more readily to print on more than one type of card stock, and a standard card feeder is often impractical in these applications."
The new Javelin J100i lets users print monochrome or color employee and student ID cards, loyalty, gift and membership cards, or transit and recreational passes in a single pass on varied types of cards, including those that are pre-printed. Besides providing both magnetic stripe and smart card encoding, the J100i offers both USB and Ethernet connectivity so that customers can deploy and manage card printers on an enterprise-wide basis. For example, a temporary membership card could be produced at the local outlet so the holder could begin using membership benefits straight away while a permanent card, perhaps with embossed and other security features, is personalized at and distributed from a central location.
The Javelin J100i has an integrated cardholder that stores 100 cards in three separate bays so as to keep different types of cards easily available and clean prior to printing. An LCD screen enhances the user experience with increased printer status and diagnostic messaging. Customers will also appreciate the sleek modern design which requires only limited counter space.
The Javelin J100i contact smart card encoder is EMV (Europay, Mastercard and Visa) compatible for financial applications. The printer has received regulatory approvals for EU, United States and Canada, and in other countries.
Ease-of-Use Features
The Javelin i-Series intelligent supplies and software make setup quick with ribbon type detection, low-ribbon warning and automatic printer configuration to produce high quality cards. Javelin
printers are supplied Microsoft compatible software drivers for Windows® 2000, XP and Vista; these provide plug-and-play operation and compatibility with most applications, including NBS's Javelin5 ID card application software. Ethernet 10/100 connectivity also lets the Javelin J100i be run over a network.
User convenience features include the Load-N-Go™ drop-in ribbon cartridge with integrated cleaning roller, an LCD message display to guide printer operation, and an integrated card storage space.
The printer's CardSense™ single card feeder allows users to insert a single card into the front of the printer where it is pulled in, printed and encoded, and then returned to the user from the same aperture at the front of the printer. This front feed and exit option is particularly important for applications such as personalized gift and membership cards in the retail and casino markets where the space available to site a card printer is often limited.
The Javelin J100i provides single-sided printing in full color or monochrome. As with all the Javelin i-Series printers, the J100i uses TrueColours® formulation and produces superior print quality and a more accurate range of color reproduction. The ribbon system also features wider ribbons for even better edge-to-edge printing.
