In only five months since the private release of its beta test site, online wine retailer VinoShipper.com now offers 350 wines from over 100 wineries located in 13 states. With VinoShipper.com's software platform now tested and fully functional, these often small, family-owned wineries can have their wines sold to consumers residing in the states into which the online retailer legally ships, with VinoShipper.com responsible for all of the compliance reporting and taxes. This combination of software platform and compliance services means that wineries carried by VinoShipper.com can have their wines sold directly to consumers residing in states where they may not have been able to sell before.
"Our goal all along has been to use technology to extract complexity out of the wine industry," said Steven Harrison, VinoShipper.com's CEO and President. "For a variety of well known reasons, it is extremely difficult for many wineries to get their wines to all interested consumers. With our technology platform and permits, wineries can finally have their wines sold to wine club members and other customers they felt it was too complex to sell to before. For wine lovers, this greatly expands the number of wines they can enjoy at home."
In response to input from wineries, since its launch VinoShipper.com has added a several new features, including a new pricing module. With wineries keeping 85% of the final sale price from transactions generated by VinoShipper.com, they can afford to have substantial savings extended by VinoShipper.com to consumers on multiple bottle purchases. Wineries such as Tedeschi Family Wines of Napa Valley offer consumers a 25% savings on case orders of their 100% Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon. With this pricing feature, VinoShipper is able to extend price breaks similar to those offered by wineries, but now to consumers residing in states it ships to but the wineries don't.
"This pricing module is just one example of our company's ethic of listening to wineries and quickly creating solutions that allow them to maximize their revenue," said Harrison. "We thrive on finding either technology or business model solutions we can implement that allow wineries to focus on making great wines and consumers on enjoying them."
