Punx.com Enters Into the Specific Interests Social-Networking Scene

Punx.com, has entered into the special interest on-line social-networking scene to join a new and popular trend on the web.

Mansfield, MA (PRWEB) April 20, 2008 – Punx.com, a relatively new site on the web, has joined in the increasingly popular "special interests" social-networking scene. The site's goal is to give bands and fans of Punk music, and their art, a place to come together.

Punx.com is one of a number of new social-networking sites looking to maintain focus on a specific interest that appeals to its members. Punx.com's approach contrasts that of the big social-networking sites (Myspace, Facebook, etc.) in that it is not trying to go after the masses and instead appeals to a smaller specific audience. While offering many of the same features of the big sites (photo uploads, blogs, forums, etc.) the site offers less “noise” making it easier for it's members to find exactly what they are looking for.

Dave Goyea, one of the founders of site, had this to say about their approach: "Our members are fans of the whole Punk scene and everything that goes along with that. Being 'Punk' means a lot of different things to a lot of different people. But, one thing that always seems to be true is that people that are into 'being punk' are into being who they want to be without caring about being 'mainstream' and caring what everyone else thinks. We are trying to give people a place where they can do that without having to jump on the band wagon and join one of the 'big sites', which really goes against that whole way of thinking."

The market for "specialized" sites appears to be growing. CNN.com recently ran an article on their main page regarding the increasing popularity of smaller social-networking sites. The articles speaks about users that are frustrated by the overwhelming size and number of people on the larger sites, making it too difficult to find the groups and interests that individuals are looking for.

The popularity of the large social-networking sites is and likely will continue to be strong. However, the time seems ripe for Punx.com and similar sites to step in and provide the focused on-line experience their members are looking for. So for those people looking for something different, the special interest social-networking sites might be just the alternative to the big sites that they are looking for.
