Municipalities Choose MapDotNet and Virtual Earth

Cities and counties adopt modern GeoWeb technologies -- the popularity of Web 2.0 mapping on the Internet ignited by Google Maps and Microsoft Virtual Earth™ has penetrated local governments and agencies.

(Vocus/PRWEB ) April 21, 2008 -- The popularity of Web 2.0 mapping on the Internet ignited by Google Maps and Microsoft Virtual Earth™ has penetrated local governments and agencies. "ISC has seen a marked increase in sales of MapDotNet Server to local agencies over the past few months," said Mark Alexander, President of ISC. "MapDotNet provides the link between an agency's GIS resources and the GeoWeb; we're helping these agencies to achieve much higher degrees of usability for their website visitors."

Municipalities that have selected MapDotNet recently include the City of Virginia Beach, Virginia, the City of Old Bridge, New Jersey, the City of Indianapolis, Indiana, Collier County, Florida, the City of Richmond, Virginia, the Tallahassee, Florida Economic Development Council, the South Coast Air Quality Management District of Southern California, and the City of Miami, Florida.

Many of these agencies are selecting to integrate MapDotNet and Microsoft's Virtual Earth consumer mapping service into their public websites to provide high performance, user friendly interactive maps.

Microsoft Releases City of Miami Case Studies

Recently, Microsoft Corporation published video and written case studies of the City of Miami's new interactive zoning map website, which integrates MapDotNet and Virtual Earth. Internet users can view the video case study and view the 3D zoning maps at Miami's website, at miamigis.com.

According to the case study, "The City of Miami wanted to merge its GIS data with a consumer-oriented mapping application that would provide an easy way to visualize, connect with, and navigate through information and services. The city needed online mapping applications to help in three main areas: public safety response, urban design and planning, and tourism services. Miami engaged IT consulting firm and Microsoft® Gold Certified Partner I.S. Consulting to help it develop a mapping application built on the Microsoft .NET Framework and integrating the city's ESRI-based geodatabase with other databases. Working with IS Consulting, Miami chose Microsoft Virtual Earth™ mapping software to develop its new applications."
