The demand for online learning opportunities is growing by leaps and bounds as thousands of degree-seeking students flock to Internet-based classrooms and lecture halls. "Two years ago, approximately 500 people a month used our Web site to request information from online colleges," said Daniel Kane, director of the American Educational Guidance Center. "Now, that number is closer to 5,000 a month."
Kane attributes the increases to a number of factors in the industry and in workplaces throughout America. Right now, there are record numbers of online degrees being awarded and more and more traditional colleges are becoming involved with online, distance learning programs. Plus, Kane said, more employers are recognizing the legitimacy of Internet-based learning and are offering to reimburse employees for tuition spent at online colleges and universities.
"The Internet is changing the way education is delivered," said Kane. "The Internet enables students and colleges to connect no matter their schedules or geographic locations."
