A New Online Flood Risk Tool That Could Help Estimate Your Home Insurance Premium

The Environment Agency has recently launched a new online flood risk checker to help those potentially at risk.

Poole, Dorset (PRWEB) April 27, 2008 -- The resource available at http://www.environment-agency.gov.uk/subjects/flood/ is one of a number of new measures the agency has launched to counteract the problems encountered in floods such as the terrible scenes that occurred last summer where it was estimated that around 50,000 houses were flooded that had never been affected previously.

The online tool should be seen as a first step to ensuring that all home owners are prepared for flooding occurring in their area. It is believed that approximately 2.2 million homes are situated in areas of flood risk such as coastal areas and river banks and people have been encouraged to check their postcode as bad weather has already hit parts of the country over the last month.

This preparation advice from the Environment Agency will be invaluable in protecting people's homes. However, it is vital to ensure that they have the correct levels of cover with their home insurance so that if the worst does happen, your home and contents will be fully protected
Poole in Dorset in one of the areas that has recently seen floods in mid-march of this year. This affected many homes and motorists in areas where it is advised that further research is done by those who may be at risk. This will enable those at risk to prepare for a flood before, during and after the event.

Kerry Patton from Castle Cover a Poole based Home Insurance company added
"This preparation advice from the Environment Agency will be invaluable in protecting people's homes. However, it is vital to ensure that they have the correct levels of cover with their home insurance so that if the worst does happen, your home and contents will be fully protected"

Homeowners will need to become more aware of the financial implications flooding may have on their homes as the likelihood of climate change may affect the ability to obtain house insurance in the future, using the tool to determine flood risk should be the first step to ensuring that this is a likely scenario.
