Mutts-n-Stuff to Give Blind Rescued Pit Fighter a Fighting Chance at a New Life
Mutts-n-Stuff, a St. Louis MO not for profit bully breed rescue group hosts Bully Bash 2008 to raise money to provide a safe haven for a rescued, blind pit fighter seized as part of an alleged dog fighting ring in Missouri.
St. Louis MO. (PRWEB) April 27, 2008 -- Mutts-n-Stuff, a Missouri-based, not for profit, bully breed rescue group needs your help to give Phoenix a fighting chance at a normal life. Phoenix is a brindle American Pit Bull Terrier, about eight years old and blind. He was allegedly forced to take part in the barbaric "sport" of dog fighting most of his life, without being able to see his opponent. For years, members of an inhumane society have made money off of the suffering of this courageous dog.
Phoenix came to Mutts-n-Stuff through the Humane Society of Missouri. Towards the end of 2007, a dog fighting operation in Stoddard County, Missouri, was busted. During the investigation, one of the defendants surrendered his alleged fighting dogs to the Humane Society of Missouri. Phoenix was one of those dogs.
There is no way to determine how long Phoenix has lived in darkness or how he lost his sight, but it is certain that he has been in dog fights while he has been blind. His scars tell the story: Phoenix had to fight or die. Despite all that he has endured, Phoenix has a wonderful spirit and lots of life left. However, his violent past has left him unsuitable as a home companion.
Mutts-n-Stuff has a donor who will provide the land for Phoenix's retirement cottage and is committed to caring for him for the rest of his days. Midwest Dream Homes, a local construction and remodeling company, will donate the labor to build Phoenix's new home, but building materials are costly and Phoenix needs the community's help. Home Depot has offered materials at a discounted price, but Mutt-n-Stuff still needs to raise money for materials and supplies for Phoenix's retirement home, and for his continuing care. Your donation, large or small, will help provide a safe haven for Phoenix. All donations are tax deductible.
Phoenix can have a little place in the country where he can live out the rest of his days, safe from harm, well-cared for, and allowed to just be a dog while he's being rehabilitated. The long range goal is for Phoenix to earn his American Kennel Club Canine Good Citizen ® certificate. That's a lofty goal for a blind former fighting dog, but we have faith in Phoenix. Remember, your donation not only will help Phoenix, but will also join your voice with the voices of those that call out for humane treatment for all the Phoenixes in our society.
Bully Bash 2008 will be held at Point Du Sable Park in St. Charles MO on Sunday May 4, 2008, from 10 am to 4 pm. Admission is free to the public. There will be local vendors and dog rescue organizations in attendance. In addition, there will be pet and people contests and games, a dog costume contest, raffles, demonstrations by the O'Fallon K-9 Unit, obedience and agility demonstrations, and Canine Good Citizen testing. Also, three box seat tickets to a Cardinal's game will be auctioned and the St. Louis Cardinal's mascot, Fred Bird, will present the Cardinal's tickets to the winning bidder.
Bring the family and support ending dog fighting in Missouri and Illinois and help Phoenix have a safe and secure home for the rest of his life.
