SolarWinds Announces Availability of Orion NetFlow Traffic Analyzer 3.0
Network engineers typically have limited visibility into who is using network bandwidth and how they are using it. Without knowing which applications and which servers and desktops account for the most bandwidth usage, network engineers cannot easily diagnose network problems or properly match network capacity to business needs.
NetFlow Traffic Analyzer enables network engineers to capture flow data from continuous streams of network traffic and convert those raw numbers into easy-to-interpret charts and tables that quantify exactly how the corporate network is being used and by whom. New features in 3.0 include extended device support via NetFlow v9 and sFlow v5, Port Application Grouping, Network-wide Top Talkers, and Top Applications which help network engineers quantify network-wide bandwidth usage.
Las Vegas, NV (PRWEB) April 29, 2008 -- SolarWinds, a leading provider of downloadable, enterprise-class network management software, announced today the availability of Orion NetFlow Traffic Analyzer v. 3.0, a module for the award-winning Orion Network Performance Monitor. SolarWinds is demonstrating NetFlow Traffic Analyzer this week at Interop Las Vegas 2008 in booth #839.

One of our customers' stokesTechnologies uses NetFlow Traffic Analyzer to help determine who is using bandwidth and what it is being used for. They manage and monitor networks for telecom companies of all sizes including Verizon and SBC. Stokes finds that most of their clients have no idea what is actually happening on the corporate network and therefore, have no reliable way to do capacity planning. They have been using Orion Network Traffic Analyzer since it was first released and plans to upgrade to the new release.
"We started with the first version of Orion NetFlow Traffic Analyzer, which was very good and provided the data we needed", said Michael Stokes, chief technology officer, stokesTechnologies. "The new navigation features and the ability to bookmark are big improvements. In addition, the new graphs help novice users identify and understand what they are looking at. Through a unified console we now have point-and-click access to comprehensive charts and detailed reports that deliver a clear portrait of the network traffic, thereby increasing our ability to enhance the performance and availability of our customers' network."
NetFlow Traffic Analyzer features include:
| | - Detailed Traffic Analysis - Visualize the company's network with unprecedented detail by isolating traffic by user, application, or protocol to quickly investigate and remediate network issues.
- Native Orion Integration - Leverage SolarWinds' Orion Network Performance Monitor architecture by incorporating NetFlow traffic in Orion's familiar and intuitive charts, graphs, tables, top 10 lists, and reports to fully monitor network-wide health from a single comprehensive console.

This new version 3.0 also provides network engineers with vital information to more quickly detect, diagnose, predict and resolve network slowdowns and outages. Key new features include:
| | - Network-wide Top Talkers - Quickly determine the top bandwidth users across the network from a single display on the NTA summary page.
- Network-wide Top Applications - Quickly determine the application using the most network bandwidth across the network from a single display on the NTA summary page.
- QoS Performance Views - Easily view network traffic segmented by Class of Service methods such as Type of Service or DSCP. Quantify and visualize the amount of traffic each of your Quality of Service (QoS) levels is consuming including voice and video data.
- NetFlow v9 and sFlow v5 Device Support - NTA now provides support for NetFlow v9 devices.
- Port Application Grouping - Assign an application which uses several network ports to a group to gauge network-wide performance for an application.
- Personalized Traffic Views - Create and access personalized views by filtering NetFlow information for specific details such as domain traffic generated during standard office hours (8-5p) from a specific IP address.
