Full-Motion Video Sent Over 90 Miles From Tactical UAV to Ground Station

Trident Systems Incorporated has conducted a flight test of transmitting digital, full-motion (30 frame-per-second) video at a range of greater than 90 statute miles. This video stream, sent from a 19' wingspan UAV, offers military users of small UAVs significantly extended range over existing data links.

Redlands, CA (PRWEB) April 30, 2008 -- Trident Systems Incorporated has conducted a flight test of transmitting digital, full-motion (30 frame-per-second) video at a range of greater than 90 statute miles. This video stream, sent from a 19' wingspan UAV, offers military users of small UAVs significantly extended range over existing data links.

"We're looking at the next generation of small UAV communications," noted Nick Karangelen, founder and President of Trident Systems. "In the tactical UAV market, long-range used to mean 40 miles, typically with analog TV-band signals. Now, Trident has proven a secure, high-capacity link that gives dramatic new reach to every tactical UAV in the DOD inventory."

The system is known as the Payload Interface Master Module - Extended Range (PIMM-XR). PIMM-XR is the latest in a family of PIMM products manufactured by Trident Systems for use in unmanned systems, ranging from ground vehicles to UAVs. According to John Broglio, Trident's Executive Vice President of Business Development, "We've focused PIMM-XR on the under-served market for small UAVs. With its digital encryption and true airborne network capability, PIMM-XR can support both long-range operations and real-time tactical communications between the ground station and tactical forces under the UAV."

Trident will be presenting the results of this test flight at two upcoming trade shows: the Distributed Common Ground Station conference (29 April- 1 May, Adams Mark, CO) and the DISA Customer Partnership conference (5-9 May, Orlando, FL).

Trident Systems Incorporated (TSI) is a veteran-owned small business that has been providing hardware and software systems to military and commercial clients since 1985.
