Shoppingbags.com Introduces 'The PET Bag': The Latest Environmental Breakthrough in Reusable Custom Shopping Bags

Shoppingbags.com, a division of Modern Arts, continues to find new ways to help save the environment with their latest arrival, "The PET Bag". The PET Bag is made from 100% post consumer material and offers a new method for removing excess plastic bottles from the environment by recycling them into sturdy, attractive reusable bags.

(PRWEB) April 29, 2008 -- Modern Arts and Shoppingbags.com continue to find new ways to help save the environment with the latest in their line of reusable custom shopping bags: The PET Bag. The PET Bag, made from 100% post consumer material, offers a new method for recycling excess plastic bottles, and turns them into sturdy, attractive custom shopping bags that benefit the environment, users, and retailers.

These reusable shopping bags seek to correct a growing problem with the number of plastic bottles going into landfills. In 2007, 4 billion gallons of water were marketed in individual 12oz Polyethylene Terephthalate or PET, bottles. Only 23% of those bottles were recycled, and the rest wound up in landfills. Waste of these bottles results in massive amounts of crude oil consumption used to make new bottles, the equivalent of 17 million barrels, and Modern Arts' new eco friendly shopping bags come as part of an effort to drastically reduce annual U.S. oil consumption by reducing plastic bottle production.

"The times are changing," says Greg Howell of Modern Arts. "PET is being recycled into more and more items, including carpets, clothing, automotive parts, new bottles, and now, shopping bags and other retail packaging. The PET shopping bags offer a superior option to recycling paper or creating reusable bags out of virgin plastics, and reduce the waste associated with PET bottles."

The new line of environmental packaging from Modern Arts, available at Shoppingbags.com, features non-toxic inks and mono-materials, and are reusable for up to a year. Aside from being good for the environment, the reusability of The PET Bag is good for marketers, as these custom shopping bags double as take-out advertising.

"Reusability, in addition to helping the environment, offers the retailer an exceptional marketing tool for placing their brand and logo in the mainstream," says Howell. "A reusable bag can maintain condition and use for several years, and reinvents the Modern Arts concept of shopping bags as walking billboards."

Alex Lindsay, President and CEO of Shoppingbags.com, with assistance from Dow Chemical, was one of the first U.S. retail packaging manufacturers to invest in research for the reusable shopping bag. The new line of eco friendly shopping bags was conceived by Lindsay, and reinforces both Shoppingbag.com and Modern Arts' commitment to environmentally friendly packaging.
