Students are now in the throes of doing their science fair projects.
New Super Science Fair Projects web site offers step-by-step guidance in doing science fair projects for middle through high school age children and includes a parents guide and a teacher's resource page. With the aid of a timeline students are guided through the process of showing how to keep a science log, choose a category and topic, research a project, complete all six steps of the scientific method, write a project report and abstract, make a display board and give an oral presentation of the project.
Students learn how judges evaluate a project. A click on the "Secret Files" links them to projects, topics, ideas and experiments as well as additional resources.

The site, which is designed to help middle school, jr. high and high school students through the intricacies of science fair projects one step at a time, also includes a parents guide and a teachers resource page.
"The typical science fair project takes two to three months to complete, and thats a long time for a student to stay motivated and on track," says Ms. Binder. "I wanted to create a site that is not only informative, but also interactive and fun. Thats where Detective ThinkMore comes in."
Detective ThinkMore is a cartoon character who guides the reader (his "rookie") through the process of solving the mystery of science fair projects. A click on the "Secret Files" links them to projects, topics, ideas and experiments as well as additional resources. One Secret File has a unique timeline that helps students stay on track and finish their science fair project on time. Motivational sayings and encouragement are woven throughout the site. On each page of the 22-page site, the detective engages students in conversation while showing how to:
. map a project on a timeline
. keep a science log
. choose a category and topic
. research a project
. complete all six steps of the scientific method
. write a project report and abstract
. make a display board
. give an oral presentation of the project
Students also learn what to do when they are at the science fair and how judges evaluate a project.
The parents guide explains how to coach a child during this process and avoid the temptation of doing it themselves. The teachers resource page is rich with links to:
