Andy Fletcher, president of Atlanta's integrated marketing communications agency, Fletcher Martin honored by his alma mater, the University of Florida's College of Journalism and Communicaitons with the 2008 Alumnus of Distinction award.
Fletcher graduated from UF in 1976 with a BA in Advertising and has since become one of the most respected and vocal leaders in the industry. Literally growing up in the ad business, Fletcher has worked with major national brands, including General Electric, First Data Corporation, Learjet, Arby's, The Kansas City Chiefs, Northwest Airlines, Sonic Drive-ins and Western Auto where he led their sports marketing and NASCAR sponsorship efforts. Recently, he directed the strategic vision for the launch campaign for the Atlanta Thrashers.
A gator to the core, Fletcher has continued to support his alma mater with creative and strategic advertising as well as with enthusiastic cheering at UF sporting events. "I am truly humbled by this great honor," said Fletcher. "There have been 23,000 graduates since the early 1970s and only 100 people, less than one half of one percent, have been selected for this recognition. It's a real an honor and I am genuinely touched."
The award was presented on April 9 at the university's annual awards dinner and additional recognition will be made during the May commencement ceremonies.
Other award recipients include: Angela Buonocore, vice president of corporate communications for The Pepsi Bottling Group; Betty Cortina, editorial director of Latina Media Ventures; Maryanne Culpepper, senior vice president, editorial development, at National Geographic Television & Film; and Keith Tribble, Twice-named as one of the most respected figures in collegiate athletics by Sports Illustrated.
