CAKE to Head Line-Up for 15th Annual Radio 92.9 Earthfest

Radio 92.9 has announced the line-up for the 2008 Radio 92.9 Earthfest show will be headlined by alternative rock band CAKE. The 15th Annual Earthfest line-up will also include the bands Cracker, the BoDeans and the English Beat.

What is a celebration without a little cake? Radio 92.9 has announced the line-up for the 2008 Radio 92.9 Earthfest show will be headlined by alternative rock band CAKE. The 15th Annual Earthfest line-up will also include the bands Cracker, the BoDeans and the English Beat.

Presented by Whole Foods Market and free to the public, the Radio 92.9 EarthFest will take place on Saturday, May 24, 2008 at the Hatch Shell on the Esplanade in Boston. Musical performances on the main stage will begin at 12 noon. This celebration for the Earth will feature great music, family-friendly activities and showcase a host of environmentally friendly products and non-profit organizations. Produced in conjunction with the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation, the event is expected to draw more than 100,000.

"This year's line-up features some of the most influential alternative rock artists out there," said Dana Marshall, program director for Radio 92.9. "We are thrilled with the depth of the line-up and the commitment of the bands to help us in celebrating Mother Earth. It promises to be one of best events in the 15 year legacy of Earthfest."

  • CAKE: The alternative rock band CAKE formed in Sacramento, California in 1991. The song "Rock and Roll Lifestyle" became the band's first radio hit. Other CAKE hits have included "The Distance", "Never There", "Sheep Go to Heaven", "No Phone", "Short Skirt/Long Jacket", and an unconventional remake of Gloria Gaynor's disco classic "I Will Survive". The band is currently working on their sixth studio album, scheduled for release in autumn 2008.
  •     Cracker: David Lowery and Johnny Hickman formed Cracker in 1991.17 years, 8 albums, and 4 gold records later, the alternative rock band has enjoyed a longevity possessed by few bands. Cracker's most recent release, Greenland, was released in 2006.
  •     The BoDeans: Formed in Waukesha, Wisconsin in the 1980's by Kurt Neumann and Sammy Llanas, The BoDeans are one of America's premier roots-rock bands. Still, released in March 2008, is the latest album from the BoDeans, produced by Grammy-winning producer T-Bone Burnett.
  •     The English Beat: Hailing from Birmingham, England, The English Beat became one of the most popular and influential bands of the British Ska movement. The English Beat disbanded in 1983, after their third album, "Special Beat Service". Dave Wakeling continues to tour as The English Beat with an amazing all-star ska backing band playing the hits of The English Beat, General Public, and his new songs.

Our Stage Contest
For the second year in a row, the Radio 92.9 Earthfest will feature the Boston Music Stage. The stage hosts the best local artists from Greater Boston, one of the nation's most vibrant music scenes. This year, Radio 92.9 has partnered with to find out who should play on the Boston Music Stage. The top five local acts from the 929 EarthFest Channel on will be awarded an opportunity to perform at Earthfest, with the winning artist awarded an opportunity to perform on the main stage. Kids' Planet - The Perfect Family Destination
In addition to the musical performances on the main stage, Earthfest will also feature Kids' Planet - an expanded interactive family area. The perfect destination for families and kids of all ages, Kids' Planet will feature a stage with a wide variety of musical acts and entertainment, including a headline performance from Ellis Paul, who released his first children's CD Dragonfly earlier this year. Other performers on the children's stage include Michael and Marisa and Zumix, a non-profit cultural organization dedicated to building community through the arts. Zumix will feature performances from three youth musical acts, including the Divercity Band, the Zumix chorus and a classical guitar ensemble. Activities in Kids' Planet will begin at 10 a.m.

Entertaining and Environmental
In addition to the musical entertainment, the 2008 Radio 92.9EarthFest is committed to being environmentally sound and providing information about environmental issues to all attendees. Radio 92.9 is working to ensure the event is carbon-neutral, creating little impact on the environment. In addition, Waste Management will be onsite throughout the duration of the show, implementing a host of recycling initiatives.

More than 100 booths onsite will offer educational displays, exhibits and food sampling. The booths will be staffed by event sponsors and local environmental and non-profit organizations.
