With the ADVA FSP 150 platform, we can easily guarantee customers the bandwidth promised in their service level agreements (SLAs). Thanks to the transparency of the connection, M net’s solution can also transport all other network protocols that run across an Ethernet circuit.

M net Telekommunikations GmbH is using ADVA Optical Networking’s FSP portfolio of products to provision optical and Ethernet-based services for business users, especially for those services where the highest levels of connectivity and reliability are required. ADVA Optical Networking’s solutions also play a key role in the expansion of the M-net backbone network, which is driven by geographic expansion, growing customer numbers and new service offerings.
Different from the residential market, where an ongoing price war is raging, the enterprise segment is focused to a greater extent on reliability, quality of service and flexibility. M-net operates successfully in this difficult market, currently counting around 23,000 enterprises and other businesses among its customer base. Requirements are the highest around dedicated connections, like those required to link remote data centers and based on Wavelength Division Multiplexing (WDM) technology. M-net offers these enterprise customers bandwidth up to 640 Gbit/s.
“Our customers value the speed, stability and high availability of our WDM solutions,” explained Thomas Zinecker, a systems specialist in central planning at M-net. “ADVA Optical Networking’s stable and reliable equipment delivers this, coupled with M-net’s network management center (NMC), which monitors our network infrastructure 24x7. For a number of our customers, the fact that the FSP 2000 from ADVA Optical Networking has received all key certifications in the area of mainframe applications is important.”
ADVA Optical Networking equipment also plays a part in M-net’s Metro Ethernet offerings. Products from ADVA Optical Networking’s FSP 150 intelligent Ethernet transport portfolio are being deployed as network termination devices at M-net enterprise customer premises to flexibly provision bandwidth at rates up to 1Gbit/s and to offer end-to-end Ethernet services without bottlenecks or the need for interface conversion. In addition, M net offers metro Ethernet solutions prioritized by quality-of-service and class-of-service guarantees, ensuring optimum conditions for carrying crucial data and applications.
“For large companies in particular, it’s critical to deploy highly redundant networks that are both transparent and flexible to support multiple applications,” added Zinecker. “With the ADVA FSP 150 platform, we can easily guarantee customers the bandwidth promised in their service level agreements (SLAs). Thanks to the transparency of the connection, M net’s solution can also transport all other network protocols that run across an Ethernet circuit.”
Steadily growing numbers of enterprise and residential customers, coupled with new service offerings, are driving toward high utilization levels at M-net’s network. With all signs pointing to continued growth, the Munich-based network operator is deploying ADVA Optical Networking’s highly scalable FSP 3000 platform to achieve higher levels of transport capacity in its own backbone. M-net is also using the platform to further expand its 3,500km optical fiber network, where the service provider benefits from the high flexibility and scalability of the product line in the build out of new city rings and metro connectivity.
In the near future, M-net will also deploy ADVA FSP 150 devices to connect businesses in more rural areas.
“With ADVA Optical Networking’s high-performance, versatile product portfolio, service providers can offer customers highly scalable optical transport, combined with the intelligence of ubiquitous Ethernet technology,” stated Christian Cehovin, vice president sales for Central and Eastern Europe at ADVA Optical Networking. “M-net is a forward-thinking carrier offering its customers advanced services and high transmission rates. Customers benefit from SLAs that are constantly monitored and complied with rigorously. Our FSP product range, designed specifically for use by network operators, provides companies like M net with the functionality they need to build next-generation networks on a simple and flexible architecture.”
ABOUT M-NET TELEKOMMUNIKATION GMBH
For more than 11 years, M-net has offered telephony, Internet services, DSL and enterprise connectivity. M-net merged with NEFkom on January 1, 2004, and then with AugustaKom on January 1, 2006. The company is registered officially under the name M-net Telekommunikations GmbH, but still operates under the AugustaKom and NEFkom brands in the Swabia and Franconia regions of Germany. By maintaining a regional focus centered on the greater Munich, Nuremberg and Augsburg areas, in addition to the towns of Bayreuth, Regensburg, Ingolstadt, Landshut, Würzburg, Kempten, Ulm and other select locales, M-net has the agility it needs to enable rapid decision-making and fast, responsive service. The company operates its own modern, high-speed optical fiber network, spanning a total length of around 3,500 kilometers. M net’s gradual regional expansion into surrounding boroughs and towns means a growing number of customers have access to the company’s portfolio of products. M-net is co-owned by regional Bavarian utility companies, including: Stadtwerke München GmbH, Stadtwerke Augsburg Energie GmbH, Allgäuer Überlandwerk GmbH, N-ERGIE AG, infra fürth GmbH and Erlanger Stadtwerke AG.
