West Virginia - known popularly as The Mountain State - could arguably be nicknamed the tree state. With 78 percent of the landscape covered in trees, it ranks third in the nation for percentage of forest cover. In Fayette County, where ACE Adventure Resort and its brand-new-for-08 "Canopy Tour" is located, that number jumps another ten points.

"As any of our thousands of past visitors can attest, there is no shortage of trees at ACE," said course facilitator Emily Marr. "We knew that a ropes course had to be the next thing on our list, and we've developed a great one that will give visitors a scenic, thrilling and safe ride."

Tour designer Phil Davis incorporated the natural landscape and existing formations to create this unique half-day trip.

"The trip begins at the edge of a cliff and combines trees, platforms and cliff-tops to make the adventure diverse and colorful," he said. "You'll fly within nature's courtyard."

Six zip lines cover 2,000 total feet so guests can soar on the ride of their lives 50 feet in the air. The adventure culminates with an exhilarating rappel back to earth. Available May through November, a Canopy Tour is perfect for individuals wanting a different view of the New River Canyon.

The course joins the Alpine Tower, low- and high-initiatives courses, paintball field and ever-popular mud obstacle course in ACE's adventure lineup. The friendly staff at ACE guide all trips and focus on a balance of fun and safety.

Those out for a simple personal adventure can also choose from trail rides, rock climbing, hiking, biking, swimming and, of course, world-class whitewater rafting and kayaking. Facilities include a fully-equipped conference center, restaurant, outfitter shop, comfortable cabins, bunk houses and lots of room for tent camping.
