TDCI, Inc. (TDCI), the leading provider of configurator-based software solutions, announced today that Great Plains Manufacturing (Great Plains), a leading manufacturer of agricultural and landscaping implements, has selected TDCI's BuyDesign guided selling and configuration software to streamline quoting and ordering for the company's network of over 2000 dealers, as well as for Great Plains field sales managers and in-house customer service personnel.
BuyDesign is a comprehensive guided selling and configuration solution developed to streamline the sales process for customized products. BuyDesign helps companies that manufacture products with a wide range of features, options, and dimensions increase sales by becoming 'easy to do business with' while at the same time helping them improve profitability by reducing order processing time, cost, and errors.
Great Plains will implement BuyDesign for both of the company's manufacturing Divisions: the Great Plains Division which manufactures farm implements such as drills, tillage equipment, planters, seeders, and sprayers; and the Land Pride Division which manufactures small tractor implements and utility vehicles for landowner and commercial landscape use.
BuyDesign will enable sales people to interactively guide customers through selection of various product features and options, providing visual images and dynamically calculating price as they go. Quote documents will be produced for customer acceptance, and orders will be sent via the Internet to Great Plains headquarters for submission to their business and manufacturing system (Friedman Frontier). The BuyDesign Configurator will also be integrated with Friedman Frontier order entry functions for use with orders that are submitted by fax, phone, or e-mail. This way, all orders will be produced using the same configuration and pricing rules regardless of how they are submitted.
"We want to make ordering our products as easy as possible," said Tom Evans, Great Plains Vice President of Sales. "Sometimes the best way to work with a customer is to go to their farm or workplace and interactively help them determine what they need. BuyDesign gives us the tools to do that in a way that's intuitive and visual for everyone involved."
Great Plains will initially deploy BuyDesign for use by the company's territory managers on their laptop PCs, then offer self-service capabilities to dealers either online via the Web or on their own PCs - whichever is most convenient for them. In all cases, BuyDesign will enable Great Plains to manage all product information centrally, keeping distributed PCs automatically updated via the Internet using the standard electronic synchronization features of BuyDesign.
