We are very pleased to honor Gilsbar for their innovation and commitment to providing lifestyle improvement programs designed to encourage healthier lifestyles for their employees
Washington, DC (PRWEB) May 14, 2008
The National Business Group on Health, a national non-profit organization of large employers, honored Gilsbar, Inc. for its commitment and dedication to promoting a healthy workplace and encouraging a healthy lifestyle for its employees and families.
Gilsbar, Inc. was among 52 employers nationwide that received the Best Employers for Healthy Lifestyles award at the Leadership Summit sponsored by the National Business Group on Health's (NBGH) Institute on the Costs and Health Effects of Obesity. Gilsbar received a Gold Award for its "Invest In Your Health" wellness program. This is the second year Gilsbar has received the Gold Award.
According to Hank Miltenberger, Gilsbar's President & CEO, "It is an honor to be recognized two years in a row by the NBGH for creating a culture of health. Every year, we reevaluate our wellness initiatives to keep the program from becoming stagnant. As a result of these efforts, year after year, we see lives forever changed. These lifestyle modifications have not only created happier and more productive employees, they have enabled us to have complete control of health care costs."
Doug Layman, Gilsbar's Executive Vice President adds, "Over the last five years, Gilsbar's medical claims costs per employee are 13% lower and Rx costs per employee are 36% lower. It is our philosophy, however, that the true return on our wellness program is found in the mitigation of expenses and various health conditions year after year. The decrease in medical and Rx costs become insignificant when compared to the positive effects, such as healthier, more energetic and more engaged employees, are having on our business. We're happy to now be able to share these experiences with other employers to help them create a culture of health in their organizations."
"We are very pleased to honor Gilsbar for their innovation and commitment to providing lifestyle improvement programs designed to encourage healthier lifestyles for their employees," said Helen Darling, President of the NBGH. "Gilsbar, Inc. and its management team should be proud of both their initiatives and ongoing support of helping employees to choose a healthier way of life."
Now in its fourth year, the Best Employers for Healthy Lifestyles award acknowledges and rewards those employers that recognize the urgent need to improve their workers' health, productivity and quality of life. The underlying goal of the program is to serve as a catalyst to encourage all employers to take action.
Winners of the Best Employers for Healthy Lifestyles awards were honored in one of three categories: Platinum, for established programs with measurable outcomes; Gold, for creating cultural and environmental changes that support employees who have made a commitment to long-term behavior changes; and Silver, for those employers who have launched significant programs or services to promote living a healthier lifestyle.
