After being the center of a media super-storm at the age of four, Elena Mitrano is ready step back into the media spotlight, this time on her own terms, with the release of her debut CD, "Rescue Me", a fun, high-energy, folk/pop, CD that is posed to be the soundtrack of the summer. And with musical influences like Madonna, Cher and the rock rebel rousers, Def Leppard, it just might.
Elena Mitrano (formally Hilary Antonia Foretich) was the core of a well-publicized international custody case in the late 1980s, when her maternal grandparents took her into hiding in New Zealand , defying a court order that Elena have unsupervised visitation with her father, Eric Foretich, who she had accused of molestation. Her mother, Doctor Elizabeth Morgan, spent 25 months in detention from 1987 to 1989 for contempt of court in Washington, D.C., for refusing to reveal Elena's whereabouts. Elizabeth Morgan was freed in 1989 by an Act of Congress. Elena's story has been chronicled in ABC/Disney TV Movie, "The Elizabeth Morgan Story," directed by Linda Otto, as well as BBC's two awe-inspiring biographical documentaries, "Hilary in Hiding," and "Elena in Exile," - both directed by Stephen Lambert
Now at 24, Elena is an energetic singer and songwriter on a mission to share her life of past tragedy, incredible adventure and her sunny future through melodic journeys. Elena ready to take the world by storm again, this time by her own choice and through music. Her debut album, "Rescue Me", features a spicy mix of dance and mid-tempo tracks reminiscent of hits created by her pop and urban inspirations. Many of Elena's tunes explore thoughts common to all hip, 20-ish folks - from wanting love to becoming responsible citizens, to plenty of partying. Elena teamed up with some of the hottest young music producers the industry had to offer to create a CD that is both moving and fun.
The lead single, "Voiceless", offers a soft, mid-tempo "prayer" for the voiceless - a tribute to those who's yearning and will to overcome obstacles Elena knows so well. "The song is about the homeless and others who society has dehumanized and not allowed to be considered equal," Elena says. Her voice is smooth, almost haunting, as she makes a heartfelt appeal for the "Voiceless."
"Rescue Me" is an up-tempo tune that's just right for urban dance clubs. Elena sings, "You lit the fire inside of me and only your love can rescue me." With its funk-filled track that celebrates young love, look for this song to chart big. "Obsessed" is another love call from Elena to the man of her dreams. As she puts it, "I'm singing the age-old problem of girls loving bad boys!" Throughout the CD, you'll find a manageable mix of tunes that cover today's contemporary issues - she's hip, fresh pop with heart for the 21st Century!
Music has been the calming wave that helped ease the pain of past tragedies for Elena, and now she hopes her music can do the same for others. Elena is also fierce champion of victim rights, and an active role model for young victims of abuse. She is a shinning example of how you not only overcome such heinous crimes, you can thrive. If she can overcome this, anyone can.
