Squash is Not Your Mama's Racquet Sport

Philadelphia Squash and Fitness Club marks first anniversary with Celebrate Mama!

King of Prussia, PA (PRWEB) May 19, 2008 -- Fairmount Athletic Club marked its first anniversary with an open house week by serving good health on its squash courts. The club invited families from the King of Prussia, PA area to attend a Celebrate Mama!™event on its spacious facility. The event featured more than 55 vendors promoting health, family entertainment and work-at-home opportunities for mothers.

"We had a very dynamic open house celebration," says Fairmount Athletic Club's Director and Founder, Demer Holleran. "We're excited to have shown young families our club facilities, which go way beyond our squash courts."

Fairmount Athletic Club is located in a 46,000-square-foot former warehouse in suburban Philadelphia. Its physical space is unusual for a health club, which took 6 years to build. The space provides plenty of room for half the club members who are strictly squash players. The other members go for the variety of Fairmount AC's group exercise programs, including spinning, Zumba and its most popular class, BodyPump.

BodyPump is a group-fitness trend that uses free weights and music to get people in shape. It was developed to get men into the health clubs' aerobics rooms.

But on this day, the focus was on women. Celebrate Mama!™ is a national organization created to pool community resources for mothers and their children, to encourage them to use local support and achieve excellence. All Celebrate Mama!™are held a week before Mother's Day.

"We hope some of these families get excited about improving their health and join our health club, even if they don't play squash," adds Holleran, who has earned more squash accolades than anyone else in U.S. history. Between 1989 and 2004, Holleran won 30 national squash titles. In her nine years as women's squash coach at the University of Pennsylvania, she led her team to a first-ever undefeated national championship season. In 2000, she was also awarded the USSRA President's Cup, becoming the first woman pro to receive that honor.
