The American College, the nation's premier financial services institution, announced today the appointment of John B. Sawyer, ChFC®, as their new Chief Financial Officer. With over 20 years of financial experience, Sawyer's skillful background as the Chief Financial Officer at The College of Physicians of Philadelphia and the Corporate Controller for the National Disease Research Interchange, will help The American College increase productivity and efficiency.
As the new Chief Financial Officer, Sawyer's responsibilities include:
- Managing the divisional staff, organization and operational systems and annual budget.
- Developing and maintaining effective reporting, and financial relationships with appropriate external organizations, government agencies, and other entities as required..
- Representing The College as required at academic, board, and professional functions.
- Developing procedural controls that sustain the operational integrity of information processing as well as managing cash flow and investments.

Sawyer received his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Widener University in Chester, PA. He has also earned his Chartered Financial Consultant®, (ChFC®), and his Master of Science in Financial Services (MSFS) degree from The American College. He holds the Certified Management Accountant (CMA) and Certified In Financial Management (CFM) designations awarded by the Institute of Management Accountants in Montvale, New Jersey. Sawyer devotes some of his free time as a member of the Board of Directors of the Center for the Blind and Visually Impaired in Chester, PA, where he is a member of the Finance Committee and a former Chair of the Personnel Committee.
