Campbell's Resort on Lake Chelan has just completed a major, $3-million renovation of its guest rooms in the newest transformation of this historic destination resort. The renovation took more than a year to complete and features custom textiles and unique furnishings that highlight Campbell's multi-generational appeal and beautiful lakeside setting.

Updating rooms with a sophisticated, style-conscious décor is a necessary step in continuing to appeal to the next generation, according to Art Campbell, general manager and executive who oversaw the renovation.

"Campbell's realized that it needed to capture the imagination of the next generation of families and, to this end, we created a resort that feels like a lake retreat - more beach cottage than motel room -- with a contemporary design and distinctive, custom elements which guests will only find at Campbell's," says Campbell.

At the same time, Campbell's and its designers were careful to keep the property a resort where multi-generational families - parents, children, grandparents -- can still vacation together and everyone feels perfectly comfortable and at home.

"I'm happy to say that this renovation doesn't change the resort's personality but reflects it," says Campbell.

Campbell's enlisted internationally-recognized, award-winning design firm, Dawson Design Associates of Seattle, which has designed numerous properties in the hospitality industry from trend-setting boutique hotels to notable restaurants and resorts. The renovation, headed by firm principal Andrea Dawson Sheehan, sought a design that reflects the matchless beauty of the resort's setting and its rich history but also its eccentric personality. At the same time, Sheehan created a contemporary room with a playful undertone and unexpected elements. The surrounding lake and hills served as inspiration for the room's color palette, textures, patterns, and furnishings, according to Sheehan.

"We gave Dawson the challenge of enhancing the experience for our guests without destroying their deep and emotional connection to Campbell's. It was important for us to look to the future, but at the same time pay tribute to our roots and the many generations of families who have made Campbell's their own," says Campbell.

Everything was selected to suggest a privately-owned cottage that has evolved over the generations. Hues of blues, teals, yellows and beiges give the room a warm and sunny charm. Custom carpet was designed by Dawson Design Associates to mimic the mirror refractions of the lake. The furniture collection includes a drift-wood chair with modern upholstery, and a tall, retro, yet contemporary, woven headboard. One of the featured pieces is a two-tone 1940s dresser made into a night stand with rounded laminate that ties into Campbell's own long history. Woven bed throws were added to the room so that guests could cozy up on the sofa. In the bathrooms are contemporary, sleek vanities, new fixtures and tiles.
