Sunwest Management, Inc. celebrates two years as the first owner of independent living, assisted living and memory care facilities to implement a comprehensive Ethics and Compliance Program.

On May 1, 2006 Sunwest Management, Inc. set a new standard for a commitment to ethical and compliant behavior in the assisted living industry by establishing a Department of Ethics and Compliance. After conducting a national search, Sunwest hired Herschel M. Timmons, Jr. as its first Corporate Integrity Officer. Mr. Timmons has 25 years experience in the health care industry as a hospital financial manager, administrator and consultant and is a Certified Compliance and Ethics Professional (CCEP), a Certified HIPAA Professional (CHP) and a Certified HIPAA Security Specialist (CHSS). He has served as an officer on the national board of Directors of directors of the Healthcare Financial Management Association, the board of directors of the Oregon Hospital Association, and as the President of the Northwest Region of the Health Care Compliance Association. He has presented on ethics and compliance related topics at national, regional and state educational conferences and to various professional associations.

During his first year on the job, Mr. Timmons developed a corporate Ethics and Compliance Program which articulates the commitment of Sunwest Management to the highest levels of business ethics and compliance with the laws and regulations that govern the services it provides. It consists of a Code of Conduct which describes the ethical principles and standards of business practice that govern the conduct of Sunwest workers, and policies, procedures and business practices designed to assure compliance with governmental regulations, Federal and State statutes and Sunwest policies. Following its development and approval, the Program was presented to all company management staff and community administrators by Mr. Timmons.

This past year has been spent implementing the Program, evaluating its effectiveness and modifying it to address any need for improvement that was identified. Sunwest Management is the only provider of independent living, assisted living and memory care facilities to have a comprehensive program addressing a corporate commitment to ethical and compliant behavior, setting a new standard for corporate responsibility in the industry.
