BPA Chemical Concerns Force Online Retailer to Change

Online retailer Breast Pumps Direct altered its product offerings to include BPA free feeding alternatives after reports raised concern about the dangers of exposure to the chemical.

Lafayette, LA (PRWEB) May 22, 2008 -- Breast Pumps Direct, an online retailer of breast pumps and breastfeeding supplies, recently altered the store's design and product offerings to accommodate the increasing demand for BPA free infant feeding products that spurred from the recent reports on the toxicity of the chemical BPA.

Bisphenol A (BPA) is a chemical compound that is used in the manufacturing of polycarbonate plastic to make it clear and shatter resistant. While BPA is present in several plastic products, its usage in infant feeding bottles and cups has been the center of concern for parents recently since reports have indicated that exposure to the chemical over time has adverse effects on infant brain development and behavior. "Given that the chemical leaches out when plastic is heated, parents are apprehensive about the washing, sterilizing and heating of feeding bottles, and we want to ensure them that there are alternatives," asserts baby product expert, Desiree Mariki.

Breast Pumps Direct made the decision to distinguish which items in the store are free of the BPA chemical to ensure that parents can continue to shop with confidence and ease when shopping for breast pumps and feeding bottles. "Once the reports about BPA came out, we began receiving calls and emails from concerned parents," states Spencer Hoyt President of Breast Pumps Direct. "It was important for us to create one location on our site that would allow us to direct parents to all of the BPA free products."

In addition to highlighting BPA free products, Breast Pumps Direct has made an effort to provide parents with information about the use of bisphenol A in polycarbonate products. Several new BPA free products have recently been added to the store's inventory to give parents a wider range of alternative plastic and glass products. Parents interested in learning more about the use of BPA or purchasing BPA free infant feeding products can visit the BPA Free Products Category at Breast Pumps Direct.

Breast Pumps Direct is a leading retailer of America's most preferred breast pumps and accessories including Ameda, Avent, Evenflo, Dr. Brown's, Playtex and Medela.
