Thanks to Humane Society University (HSU), valuable online programs are just a click away. Three upcoming online courses will teach participants everything from developing new programs and recruiting the right volunteers to improving an existing volunteer program. Each course lasts 4 weeks. Courses can be taken individually or participants can take all three courses and work toward attaining a Volunteer Management Certificate.*
ONLINE COURSE: Implementing a Successful Volunteer Program
WHEN: Online starting June 2, 2008 through June 30, 2008
DETAILS: Participants can learn volunteer management best practices and review proven techniques for effective program design, recruitment and volunteer retention. While the skills learned can be used to address volunteer issues across all fields, there is special focus on volunteer management for animal care organizations.

ONLINE COURSE: Training Volunteers and Training Staff to Work With Volunteers
WHEN: Online starting July 28, 2008 through August 25, 2008
DETAILS: This course is designed for coordinators with established programs, as well as those in the process of creating new ones. If possible, students will benefit by using their own agency as a learning laboratory.

ONLINE COURSE: Volunteer Recruitment and Screening
WHEN: Online starting September 22, 2008 through October 20, 2008
DETAILS: This course will cover how to recruit the “right” volunteers for the “right position” and hopefully curb the revolving door of volunteers. Course topics include: talent scout/HR approach, validating volunteer commitment and recruiting corporate volunteers.

*These courses can be taken individually or can be used toward a Volunteer Management Certificate Program. The HSU Volunteer Management Certificate is comprised of 5 online courses ranging from recruiting volunteers to managing challenging volunteers. Participants will learn how to develop a new volunteer program or improve an existing one. Courses are developed and led by experienced instructors. Learn from course participants and instructors about the experience of animal care organizations across the nation and perhaps around the world. Expect to spend at least 2-4 hours per week reading materials, completing assignments, and discussing issues. Complete a minimum of 4 courses and earn a Volunteer Management Certificate.
