The article, titled "Melting pot: Multicultural flavors define Filipino fare," explains how multiple Filipino restaurants, including JnJ Turo Turo are introducing new heritages and flavors to the area. Chef and owner of JnJ Turo Turo Jervin "Erasquin fills rice-paper wrappers with ground pork, potatoes, carrots and eggs, then deep fries them crispy and golden brown before serving them with honey sauce."
Beef, pork, or fish is served at most meals and are typically smoked and fried. Garlic is also a major ingredient in Filipino cuisine. "Many dishes are simmered or braised with soy sauce, vinegar, tomatoes or coconut milk. Filipino food tends to be more sweet than spicy," wrote Byrne.
Erasquin opened JnJ Turo Turo last summer when his wife landed a nursing job in the area. "It's a simple-storefront restaurant of six tables that mostly serves cafeteria-style dishes. It has no liquor license." The restaurant is also located next to Sure Pinoy, the area's only Filipino grocery.
Erasquin hopes to open another location near his home in Framingham.
