Palo Alto, CA. (PRWEB) June 10, 2008
Merk Investments® announced today that Morningstar® has awarded an Overall Rating of five stars to its Merk Hard Currency Fund® (MERKX), their highest rating for risk-adjusted performance. The Fund was rated among 183 world bond funds, and is one of the select few to be awarded the top rating.
The $360 million fund, launched in 2005, invests in a basket of hard currency denominated investments, composed of high-quality, short-term money market instruments of countries pursuing sound monetary policies, and indirectly in gold.
"We launched the Merk Hard Currency Fund in 2005 as we saw the ballooning trade deficit and the long-term pressures exerted on the U.S. dollar," says Axel Merk, president and chief investment officer at Merk. "Three years later, we are happy to have given over 10,000 investors a chance to seek protection against the continued depreciation of the dollar."
Merk added to its mutual fund offering in April 2008 by launching the Merk Asian Currency Fund (MEAFX), a fund investing in a basket of Asian currencies seeking to protect against the depreciation of the U.S. dollar relative to Asian currencies.

Past performance is no guarantee of future results. For each fund with at least a three-year history, Morningstar calculates a Morningstar RatingTM based on a Morningstar Risk-Adjusted Return measure that accounts for variation in a fund's monthly performance (including the effects of sales charges, loads, and redemption fees), placing more emphasis on downward variations and rewarding consistent performance. The top 10% of funds in each category receive 5 stars, the next 22.5% receive 4 stars, the next 35% receive 3 stars, the next 22.5% receive 2 stars and the bottom 10% receive 1 star. The Overall Morningstar Rating for a fund is derived from a weighted average of performance figures associated with its three-, five-, and ten-year (if applicable) Morningstar Rating metrics.
