Playnet Inc, creators of the massively multiplayer PC game, "WWII Online: Battleground Europe", will conduct a virtual memorial ceremony in remembrance of the fallen of World War II. This will mark the last day of a week long promotion celebrating Battleground Europe's 7th anniversary.

On Thursday thousands of people will gather online in a virtual recreation of World War II era France to conduct a memorial ceremony honoring service men and women from all countries.

Playnet Inc., creators of the online wargame WWIIOL: Battleground Europe are marking the 7th anniversary of the game with various contests, prizes and special events but are asking all players to pause and remember those who fell during the real war. In addition, players will be remembering their own. An in-game monument is inscribed with the names of those community members who have passed on. Names on the monument include people from all walks of life: Businessmen, students, homemakers and servicemen. Their common bond was an interest in World War II history and being part of a close-knit virtual community. During Thursday's ceremony, those players will also be remembered.

The ceremony will bring a halt to the usual action enjoyed by players from around the world. Virtual rifles, tanks and aircraft will all fall silent as a tribute message is broadcast in honor of those who lost their lives during World War II.

"Our business is about fun and games" says Al Corey, Executive Producer at Playnet Inc. "And it's easy to get caught up in that. This ceremony makes time for everyone to pause, remember and reflect on the real events of World War II and the men and women who fought in it."

Released as "WWII Online: Blitzkreig" in 2001, the game is now known as "Battleground Europe" - a brutal, online World War II based PvP in which players choose to fight for the Allied or Axis forces as ground troops, fighter pilots or tank commanders. It is a ground-breaking MMO that boasts thousands of fans worldwide.
