Music123 Honors Les Paul's 93rd Birthday by Highlighting Les Paul Guitars and Multi-track Recorders

Music gear retailer, Music123, celebrated the 93rd birthday of Les Paul on June 9 by remembering his life's accomplishments and offering everyday discounts on Gibson Les Paul guitars and an assortment of multi-track recorders--a device Paul helped develop.

Born Lester William Polsfuss, the music icon adopted the simplified stage name Les Paul and began his career as a professional guitarist at age 13. In 1941, Les Paul developed one of the first solidbody electric guitars. Through his partnership with Gibson Guitars, the first Les Paul guitar was sold in the early 1950s. Today, Gibson Les Paul guitars are still sold worldwide in a wide variety of setups, styles and finishes.

One of Music123's most popular Les Paul models is the handsome Gibson Vintage Mahogany Les Paul Guitar. With a carved mahogany top on a mahogany back, this model resembles the guitar that was first debuted as the famous 1957 Custom Black Beauty. Alnico V BurstBucker Pro humbuckers add vintage edge to its tone.

Epiphone, a division of Gibson, crafts Les Paul guitars that are known for their affordability. The Epiphone Les Paul Standard Guitar is one such example. With Alnico Classic humbuckers, Tune-O-Matic bridge and stopbar tailpiece combination, a mahogany body, and a maple top, the Epi LP embodies craftsmanship and delivers a balanced, resonant tone.

Les Paul is also remembered for his groundbreaking innovations in multi-track recording. Using wax discs to overlay tracks, he composed "Lover (When You're Near Me)" in 1947 and the session that produced the song marked the first time multi-tracking was used in professional recording.

Music123 carries a variety of multi-track recorders that expand on Les Paul's original concept. The Fostex MR16HD Recorder allows musicians to record up to 16 tracks and publish compositions straight to disc with a built-in CD burner. Computer-based recording interfaces such as the PreSonus FireStudio Project allow an unlimited number of tracks to be layered into one composition. The PreSonus interface comes with Steinberg's Cubase LE 4, has more than 20 realtime plug-ins, as well as a number of virtual instruments, including over 2GB of drum loops and samples. You'll get a kick-start on recording at home with the included tutorial DVD from Cubase, "LE 4, Demystified."

Les Paul still performs weekly in New York City's Iridium Jazz Club. Music123 sends a loud chorus of sincere thanks to this American jazz guitarist for his groundbreaking work and wishes him a very happy birthday.
