The 96 RANCH located in southern Crook County in the High Desert of Central Oregon was established in the early 1870's by Thomas Jefferson Logan as referenced by the Crook County Historical Society. The area is also known as Logan Butte, which was named by Tom Logan when he settled there with his family and son, who was only six years old at the time.

He was later succeeded by his brother, Samuel Logan, who continued the ranch operation and later sold the property to Dominic Verges, who later sold the ranch to Bill Brown near Buck Creek. The 96 RANCH for some time was known as the second largest ranch in Oregon next to the Q Ranch, which adjoins the property. The 96 Ranch retains its original name as this was the Brand established by Thomas Jefferson Logan.

The 96 Ranch now controls 20,525+ total acres of which 3,525+ acres are deeded with 7,000 acres of surrounding BLM land that total 10,525+ contiguous acres. There is an additional 10,000 acres of leased land from the USFS in the Mowry Unit. The ranch owns a portion of Logan
