Merger with KPN Unit Doubles Company's Scale, Completes Product Portfolio from Premium Voice, to Mobile Data Services to Fully Outsourced Solution

iBasis, Inc. (NASDAQ: IBAS), a KPN affiliate, has expanded its commercial and operational activities in the region in order to better pursue the significant opportunities for international voice and mobile data services in Asia.

In addition to its Network Operations Center in Hong Kong, iBasis is now present in Singapore, Korea, India, Japan, China, Australia, Malaysia and Vietnam. The strong presence in Asia positions the company well to address opportunities in different market segments - wholesale carriers, service providers and mobile operators that are increasingly recognizing the importance of an effective strategy for moving to IP and working with global partners that can help them to increase efficiency in their international business.

Concurrently, iBasis has expanded its product portfolio by integrating the leading products of both entities including KPN Global Carrier Services' International Premium Service (IPS), with its high quality and advanced feature-set for mobile operators. More than 100 mobile operators worldwide already rely on the IPS product for high quality international voice termination, guaranteed CLI and roaming, and can utilize iBasis Mobile Matrix portfolio of mobile data services, including MMS and SMS, to build average revenue per subscriber and customer loyalty.

The merger with KPN Global Carrier Services, completed in October 2007, immediately established iBasis as one of the largest international wholesale voice carriers in the world, and a premium carrier of international voice traffic. With approximately 24 billion minutes of annual international voice traffic, iBasis is now one of the largest carriers of international phone calls in the world.

"Today iBasis is one of very few international carriers with sufficient scale to be able to deliver high quality global termination successfully," said John Tolton, Vice President Asia-Pac. "Our focus is now on addressing the global requirements of our customers, especially Asian carriers - fixed and mobile - that are considering outsourcing some or all of their international traffic to gain greater efficiency in their international business and improve overall profitability. Our extensive footprint in the Americas combined with KPN Global Carriers Services' strong presence in Europe can immediately enhance the reach, efficiency and profitability of Asian carriers."

iBasis is already seeing strong demand for its international voice and mobile data services mainly from incumbent and mobile operators in Asia, and with 27 employees, iBasis Asia has managed to build up an impressive customer base. The company recently added Bangladesh Telegraph and Telephone Board (BTTB) as a customer.

"Asia is an important growth region for iBasis," said Ofer Gneezy, President & CEO, iBasis. "With our added scale and comprehensive service portfolio, iBasis is well positioned to be a leading strategic partner for Asian service providers that need to deliver high quality international service to their customers while focusing more of their resources on retail initiatives that promise higher margins, whether it's fixed mobile convergence or migrating their core networks and services to IP."

According to industry research firm Telegeography, switched international traffic from Asian countries grew 13% to 49.7 billion minutes in 2006. India has been the fastest growing Asian market in the past two years; traffic from India grew 49% in 2006, to 3.4 billion minutes. The rate of mobile take-up in Asia continues to rise. Subscribership in Asia surged 29% in 2006, compared with a 26% increase in 2005.
