CFO Conferences has announced the preliminary speaker lineup for its 2008 CFO Technology Summit, an event for corporate finance executives. The conference will be held September 7-9, 2008, at the Grand Hyatt in San Francisco.

"CFOs know they have to continue to invest in technology, but accomplishing that wisely has been a persistent challenge," said Julia Homer, SVP and Chief Content Officer at The CFO Group, which includes CFO magazine, CFO Conferences, and CFO.com. "An uncertain economy is now adding another variable. Our aim with this conference is to showcase companies that have done it well, and also to hear from academics and other strategists who can discuss the most innovative current thinking about how to integrate technology into a company's strategy."

Christopher Johns, SVP, CFO, and Treasurer of PG&E Corp., the $34 billion California utility company, will give a presentation titled "The PG&E Sweet Spot--Making the Connection between Energy and IT."

George Chappelle, previously CIO at Sara Lee Corp., was recently named SVP and Chief Supply Chain Officer at the large food company. He will discuss how a mind-set of innovation and continuous improvement has led to "lean and mean" operational excellence there.

Jeff Sampler, Fellow in Strategy and Technology at Oxford's Said Business School, has become well known for helping companies prepare strategically for the future--when the future is inherently too uncertain to plan for. His presentation will focus on the role of technology in designing organizations and business models; how business models endure through innovations and market changes; and managing information as a strategic resource for growth and innovation.

Another strategist, Ian Campbell, President and CEO of Nucleus Research, regularly runs "ROI boot camps" for both IT and non-IT executives. His presentation at the CFO conference will focus on how to get the IT department to build a proper business case from a finance executive's perspective.

Panel discussions will cover two emerging technologies that are likely to affect many companies: XBRL and social networking. The XBRL panel will focus on the fact that the Securities and Exchange Commission will soon require companies--by as early as next year, in fact--to file financial statements in an "interactive data" format. Participants will include John Stantial, Director of Financial Reporting at United Technologies; David Blaszkowsky, Director, Office of Interactive Disclosure, U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission; and Mike Willis, Partner at PricewaterhouseCoopers and Founding Chairman, XBRL International.

The social-networking panel will discuss the business implications of such popular sites as Facebook, Plaxo, and My Space. Participants will include John Wilson, President and CEO, JC Wilson Associates; and Ben Golub, President, Plaxo Inc.

The CFO Technology Summit will begin with an interactive, half-day preconference workshop, "Business Technology Convergence: Measuring Innovation and Growth against the Bottom Line," presented by Faisal Hoque, Founder, Chairman, and CEO, BTM Corp.; and Michael Fillios, Managing Director, BTM Global 2000.
