New Developments in Online Publishing Revealed at SIPA UK Conference

This year’s SIPA UK conference and exhibition will challenge the way newsletter and online publishers and specialised information providers think about online marketing and publishing.

Keynote speakers will include Tim Weller, founder and Group CEO of Incisive Media, who will talk on how publishing ‘narrow and deep’ is the most profitable model for specialised publishers – ‘narrowly’ providing your clearly defined audience, and ‘deeply’ (taking in all aspects of information provision from print and online to conferences, rich media and training) providing a virtuous circle of customers selecting from different product lines. David Worlock, Chief Research Fellow of Outsell Inc, will look at where today’s B2B specialised information industry is heading, and Mark Ragan, CEO of Lawrence Ragan Communications in the US, will describe the huge increase in business opportunities on offer now that he has taken his products from print to online.

Other topics to be covered during the day include powerful and results-driven email marketing techniques; search engine marketing for publishers; social networks, user generated content and the law; site licences and syndication; maximising your online development, sales, and marketing spend; and the future of paid content in the revenue mix.

Along with the keynotes, the morning presents a choice of 20 round table discussion groups, ranging from telesales and outsourcing to email marketing, social media and SEO. The afternoon features a choice of three breakout tracks on marketing, publishing strategy and content issues. There is also a comprehensive exhibition where you can chat with our sponsors and partner-suppliers.

There will be two pre-conference business discussion forums the day before the conference (Tuesday 8 July), aimed at senior marketers and publishers.

The line-up of distinguished speakers includes many people new to SIPA, such as John Whitaker of DMG World Media; Grace Baynes of Nature Publishing Group; Ken McGaffin of Wordtracker; Laurie Kay, from Laurence Kay Solicitors; Hugh Look of Rightscom, and Andrew Leighton of Aroq, along with guest speakers from the US including Guy Cecala of Inside Mortgage Finance Publications.

SIPA UK Awards

The second annual SIPA UK awards for publishing excellence will be presented during the conference. The categories are marketing team, editorial team and sales team of the year; best marketing campaign; best new launch; best online product, and best use of interactive media.
