'Mom and pop' duo, Heidi and Rob Woodgate are shaking up the birthing industry today by inviting customers to pay what they like for their birthing programme.

The experiment, which they described as 'doing a Radiohead', was announced on their blog, and runs until 30th June 2008.

The band Radiohead famously shook up the music industry in 2007 by offering their 'Rainbows' album on a similar 'pay what you like' basis.

Heidi and Rob, who are both experienced Hypnotherapists, offer a downloadable 'home study' birth preparation programme that helps women overcome their birth worries and fears so they can give birth feeling relaxed, confident and in control.

It also teaches self hypnosis, which studies indicate can make labour much shorter and less painful.

Research at the Women's and Children's Hospital in Adelaide, shows women using hypnosis reduced their need for analgesia by half, epidurals by 70 per cent, and were more than twice as likely to be satisfied with their pain management in labor compared with other women.

To fans of natural birth, their programme is near priceless. Those who are unsure whether anything can make giving birth less than a total horror story may only risk pennies.
