The world famous Mai Tai Bar welcomes back the most anticipated music competition of the summer, the Mai Tai Rumble! It's where the freshest unsigned talent flock to showcase a piece of their musical skills and fans from all over come to cheer on their favorite bands. Currently, the Mai Tai Rumble is seeking submissions from groups in the alternative rock and reggae-rock genres until July 15th. Participants will compete for cash and prizes totaling up to $10,000. Bands will showcase every Thursday night starting Aug. 7, thru Aug. 28. Entry is free. For complete entry details, rules and prizing, please visit http://www.maitairumble.com.
Now in it's third year, the Mai Tai Rumble has been gaining quite a buzz for featuring talent that has moved on through the musical ranks to make a success story. "Our contestants are so excited to perform because it's such a great opportunity for exposure," said Renee Bodenstab, Manager of Mai Tai Rumble. "Recently, Kandace Ferrel, an artist showcased at last year's event, was played on MTV's hit "The Hills" and many of our other participants have stated it has opened doors to national gigs and major opportunities in the music industry."
This year, the Mai Tai Rumble is also happy to announce a new partnership in music education. Alexander Hamilton Middle School has been selected as the beneficiary of the "finals night" an evening of fundraising leading up to a crowing of champions on Aug. 28th. From 4 p.m. to 1 a.m., the Mai Bar will donate 20 percent of its proceeds from the Rumble event to the school's music program. Alexander Hamilton Middle School serves students from North Long Beach and is struggling to expand their musical programming. This includes vocal and instrumental music covering a wide variety of styles and influences. Hamilton's goal is to provide a rich musical experience for students at all grade levels, but sadly, this may be the only place where students are exposed to music. For some it's their first time and for others it's the only access to classes that offer more one-on-one instruction. The Mai Tai Rumble is proud to contribute to the cause in an effort to help strengthen the school's music program so it can thrive to the next level.
The Mai Tai Rumble is unique because it is organized in a series of weekly showcases. Each week, a panel of judges score each band, but only one in each category advances to a finals round on August 28. Bands are considered for the limited number of performance slots based on their CD submission and overall musicianship. Selected bands are notified in advance two weeks prior to their showcase date. Bands can download the application at http://www.maitairumble.com and can drop off their submissions at the Mai Tai Bar located at 97 Aquarium Way, Long Beach.
