Maker of Ocular Multivitamins Points to Benefits of Omega-3 Fatty Acids as Highlighted in Macular Degeneration Prevention Report

VisiVite.com, makers of multivitamins to improve ocular health, points to new report linking high intake of fatty acids associated with 38% reduction in AMD risk; groundbreaking VisiVite Eye Supplement Formula created with omega-3 intake in mind.

(PRWEB) June 27, 2008 -- VisiVite.com, maker of a full range of multivitamins to improve ocular health, points to a new report in the June issue of Archives of Ophthamology, which says that a diet rich in Omega-3 fatty acids -- closely associated with fish such as tuna, salmon, trout and sardines -- can increase the prevention of age-related macular degeneration (AMD). The findings come as the result of a meta-analysis of studies that concludes that there may be a lower risk of developing AMD due to Omega-3 consumption.

The 12-year review encompasses almost 90,000 participants and is authored by researchers affiliated with several international ocular research organizations, including the Centre for Eye Research Australia; Centre for Molecular, Environmental, Genetic and Analytic Epidemiology; University of Melbourne, Melbourne; Singapore Eye Research Institute; Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore; Cancer Epidemiology Center, Cancer Council of Victoria

Age-related macular degeneration - characterized by the thinning and atrophy of the inner lining of the eye - is a leading cause of blindness in the elderly. Previous studies have shown a link between Omega-3 fatty acid intake and slowed progression of age-related macular degeneration, but this is the first analysis that suggests a correlation between beneficial fatty acids and pre-onset prevention of AMD.

The ocular health experts at VisiVite.com already produce eye care supplements rich in Omega-3s. VisiVite Premier Ocular Formula No. 2 contains the long-chain fatty acids (docosahexaenoic acid) (DHA) and eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA). The formula is based on the projected findings of the National Eye Institute's AREDS 2 study, the findings of which are due to be released in 2012.

VisiVite produces macular degeneration supplements that can help potential candidates for AMD combat the disease.
