Oliver Ditson Co., Boston, New York
Medford, OR (PRWEB) June 27, 2008 -
Premier guitar manufacturer C.F. Martin & Co., in conjunction with Private Reserve Guitars, is commemorating Martin's 175th year of producing acoustic guitars. The latest Martin models usher in a new acoustic generation and pay tribute to the guitars of yesteryear.
Martin Ditson Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar
Back when the guitar was played in orchestras, Martin developed a larger and deeper body style to increase the guitar's volume, enabling it to compete with the louder instruments. Martin named these bigger-bodied models "dreadnoughts" after the behemoth battleships used in the First World War. Initially collaborating with the Oliver Ditson Co., Martin made these dreadnought acoustic guitars exclusively for that company, and the earliest models were produced under the Ditson name.
The Martin Ditson Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar replicates the original 1916 model with mahogany back and sides, an Adirondack spruce top, Brazilian rosewood headplate and binding, special three-in-line Waverly tuners and the original "Oliver Ditson Co., Boston, New York" stamp created in 1916 on the back of the headstock. Martin's partnership with Ditson lasted until 1930, and in the following year Martin released their first dreadnought model -- the D28 -- with its own Martin brand.
Martin HD-28 Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar
The HD-28 Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar incorporates all the historic elements of the legendary and beloved D-28. Representing the golden era of Martin guitars, the HD-28's vintage appointments include herringbone trim, traditional zigzag back strip, and Martin's famous scalloped X-bracing that allows the top to vibrate more freely, yielding a louder, more open tone.
Martin POW MIA Acoustic Guitar
Designed by a small group of Martin employees, the Martin POW MIA model Acoustic Guitar was built to honor the families of American servicemen and women who were held captive or are still missing in action. Part of the proceeds from every POW MIA acoustic guitar sale is donated to the National Alliance of Families which works for the return of America's missing servicemen and women.
Martin D-35 Johnny Cash Commemorative Acoustic Guitar
The D-35 Johnny Cash Commemorative Guitar pays tribute to the legendary American folk and country icon with a polished, black gloss lacquer finish and fine appointments. Based on Cash's own Martin D-35 Custom, the headstock sports Grover Rotomatic enclosed chrome tuners. Johnny Cash's signature in pearl appears between the 19th and 20th frets and a special interior label honors the "Man in Black." Each sequentially numbered instrument is personally signed by Cash's son, John Carter Cash and by Martin chairman C. F. Martin IV.
