Noted Buddhist Teacher Sylvia Boorstein Delivers 2008 Commencement Address at the Institute of Transpersonal Psychology

Speech addresses the importance of spiritual growth and a lifetime of community service

Palo Alto, Calif. (PRWEB) June 30, 2008 -- Noted Buddhist teacher, author and psychotherapist Sylvia Boorstein, PhD, addressed the 2008 graduates of the Institute of Transpersonal Psychology (ITP) on Saturday, June 14 at the Bayside Performing Arts Center in San Mateo. Her speech, Connecting to the World as the Cause of Happiness, addressed the importance of spiritual growth and a life of community service.

In her speech, Dr. Boorstein proposed that helping to alleviate the suffering of others will bring happiness, and that the desire to be of service in the world is inherent to spiritual practice. She recounted personal stories from around the world in which she learned lessons about the suffering of others and her ability to contribute to making the world a better place. Dr. Boorstein was introduced by Tom Potterfield, president of ITP.

The Institute of Transpersonal Psychology, located in Palo Alto, offers masters and doctoral degrees in psychology and counseling. 114 students received their masters and doctorate degrees in psychology, transpersonal psychology and clinical psychology.

About Dr. Sylvia Boorstein
Sylvia Boorstein is co-founding teacher at Spirit Rock Meditation Center in Woodacre, California and a Senior Teacher at the Insight Meditation Society in Barre, Massachusetts. She has been a psychotherapist since 1967. Dr. Boorstein has written five books on meditation and Buddhism, the most recent being Happiness is an Inside Job: Practicing for a Joyful Life. She was honored as Noted Humanist Scholar by Saybrook Institute and most recently awarded an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters by the Reconstructionist Rabbinical College. She has written a column for The Shambhala Sun magazine since 2002.
