InsuranceSpecialists.com Decides to Remain Ad Free

For nine years, InsuranceSpecialists.com has delivered comprehensive insurance data, free rate quotes, and honest advice to consumers. After an extensive overhaul early in 2008 and an increased focus on the convergence of the Internet with health care services and coverage, InsuranceSpecialists has formally decided to remain advertisement-free in order to provide unbiased data on medical, auto, homeowners, and life insurance policies.

We've never had ads

Since 1999 InsuranceSpecialists.com has evolved into an information rich site that stays current with both industry trends and consumer needs. Based in San Jose, California, the site delivers trademark, in-depth data packaged in a functional, well-designed structure. The site has always been free of advertising and what was an informal company policy has now become a statement of InsuranceSpecialists' commitment to remaining unbiased and fair in the delivery of its content.

"We've never had ads," said Jon Davidson, InsuranceSpecialists.com CEO. "But we've always had lots of offers, especially over the past year. Finally we all sat down and talked about it and we couldn't see advertisements playing a role in what we're trying to accomplish. Basically, we're control freaks. We don't want material on our site, even those little search-engine related ads, if we can't say yes or no to what's being put up. It doesn't work for us."

The writers and designers at InsuranceSpecialists remain free to offer information and opinions on all topics that relate to insurance quotes and coverage. The recent addition of articles on telemedicine, the delivery of medical care over the phone or via the Internet, frankly weighed both the pros an cons of augmenting preventative care in America via this method. "If we'd had some ad for a telemedicine clinic sitting there on the site," said Davidson, "I'm afraid we wouldn't have felt as free to say, look, this works under these circumstances but not necessarily when you factor in this, this, and that. Bias creeps in through little cracks. Frankly, we see advertisements as a big crack."

Davidson and his staff remain committed to the InsuranceSpecialists mission statement: "Our job at InsuranceSpecialists.com is to give you the information you need to decide which insurance coverage is right for you and your loved ones. Through insurance statistics, policy information, and insurance rate quotes, we hope to make the burden of these decisions a little easier. Taking the time to read our insurance descriptions and classifications may help you sort out which policies will be most advantageous, and most timely to obtain."

"Could we make extra money putting advertising on the site? Absolutely," said Davidson. "But for us the trade-off in compromising what has always been an honest relationship with our readers just isn't worth it. No ad is worth sacrificing a reputation we've worked hard to build. This decision may not be standard operating procedure online, but we've never been a company to go along with the crowd just to get along."

Informing consumers about all aspects of getting and keeping insurance coverage is fundamental to InsuranceSpecialists.com's commitment to its audience. Site content and news is continually updated and the editors welcome and invite your questions, comments, and ideas. Send email to: editor@carinsurancelist.com.
