In today's enterprise networks, the versatility and value that a switch provides is driven, in large measure, by its interoperability rate with other equipment
Boca Raton, FL (PRWEB) June 2, 2008
The Tolly Group will be hosting Switch Interoperability 2008, during early August, at Ixia's new iSimCity Executive Briefing Center and Proof of Concept Lab in Santa Clara, CA. The annual study provides IT industry switch makers an objective setting to benchmark the Layer 2 and Layer 3 interoperability of their products with other vendor offerings.
Switch Interoperability 2008 will allow participating companies to demonstrate to potential buyers, through independent third-party validation, that their switches interoperate with other popular switches, including Cisco switches, that are common in enterprise networks. The event is a non-competitive study and will be held as a "plug-fest", with each vendor responsible for providing in-person configuration support for its products. Sponsors of Switch Interoperability 2008 each will supply an engineer-on-site and will be given full access to configure the sponsor's switch.
"In today's enterprise networks, the versatility and value that a switch provides is driven, in large measure, by its interoperability rate with other equipment," says Kevin Tolly, CEO and founder of the Tolly Group. "Switch Interoperability 2008 is a level playing ground for vendors to assess interoperability and report on their capabilities to the buying public".
Last year's event was deemed a success by participants and was attended by leading industry switch makers including 3Com, Alcatel-Lucent, Blade Network Technologies, Enterasys Networks, Foundry Networks, Fujitsu, HP and IBM.
This year, The Tolly Group plans to broaden the study at Ixia's iSimCity to include SMB-class Layer 2 Fast Ethernet/Gigabit Ethernet switches and, at the high end, to include enterprise, or service provider, class modular chassis-based switches capable of advanced Layer 2/Layer 3 functionality including next-generation IPv6, MPLS and multicast routing. Additionally, The Tolly Group will test high-end SMB, or enterprise-class, Layer 2/Layer 3 aggregation/edge/core switches capable of advanced IPv4 routing and multicasting. The Tolly Group will test the interoperability of 10GbE-capable switches if enough vendors offer products for testing.
Vendor equipment that passes the battery of interoperability tests will receive Tolly Verified certifications for each successful test. Interoperability certifications will be posted in the Tolly Verified Online Catalog, a central knowledge database that lists all products and features verified by the Tolly Group. Logistical details are available from your Tolly Group representative.
Opened in 2008, iSimCity is a state-of-the-art executive center and proof-of-concept lab designed with professional services and infrastructure needed to complete testing and consulting engagements of any size up to city-scale for networking devices.
