Local Builder Sends Crews to Build Habitat Homes

Savoie Construction and Realty brought more than 100 skilled craftsman, friends and family to participate in largest ever builder-sponsored event for the East St. Tammany Habitat for Humanity. This volunteer day included work from roofers, trim carpenters, electricians, landscapers and general contractors. With such a large skilled workforce the group was able to work on at least 8 different housing projects throughout the day.

Slidell, LA (PRWEB) June 1, 2008 -- Savoie Construction and Realty brought more than 100 skilled craftsman, friends and family to participate in largest ever builder-sponsored event for the East St. Tammany Habitat for Humanity.

"We've had builders come out and help before," said Caitlin Scanlan, director of the East St. Tammany Habitat for Humanity. "But we have never had a builder bring so many skilled tradesmen out to help! They accomplished more in one day than our normal volunteer crews get done in weeks." The event took place on March 8, 2008.

Habitat for Humanity builds homes for needy families using skilled supervisors to manage a volunteer workforce that brings varied levels of construction skills with them. Savoie Construction and Realty's volunteer day included work from roofers, trim carpenters, electricians, landscapers and general contractors. With such a large skilled workforce the group was able to work on at least 8 different housing projects throughout the day.

"We had some really tough jobs that desperately needed help from people who knew what they were doing," says Scanlan. "The crews from Savoie were able to salvage several homes and saved our group valuable resources that we can use for other projects."

Sharon Savoie, owner of Savoie Construction & Realty, believes this type of community involvement is a natural fit for them. "We had been looking for an opportunity to use our talents to give something back. And once we put out the word about this event we were stunned with the number of employees and sub-contractors who wanted to participate," said Savoie. "Before we knew it we had over 100 people and everyone showed up ready to work!"
