Sunnyvale, CA (PRWEB) June 4, 2008
ATP®, a leading manufacturer of high performance flash and DRAM memory, announces that it's EarthDriveTM for Earth Day 2008 Contest has come to a successful conclusion and the winners have been chosen. The contest lasted throughout April and entries poured in from students all over the nation who are taking action in their daily activities to contribute to environmental restoration efforts.
"We were overwhelmed and excited to see the huge number of responses and the high level of enthusiasm from students in all parts of the country," said Michael Plaksin, ATP Vice President of Sales and Marketing. "The stories clearly illustrate the actions that each of these students are taking both in their personal lives as well as in their communities to help protect our environment."
Grand prizes of a $1,000 scholarship fund have been awarded to two students. Jennifer Fortel, a student of California State University at Fresno, started the Fresno State Recycling Club. The club has recycled approximately 15,000 pounds of glass, cans, plastic, paper and cardboard since its inception in 2004. Diane Melville organized "Candle Hour" in February 2008; during which homes in her neighborhood turned off their lights for an hour and the neighbors got together to play games such as kickball or had a barbecue and spent the time discussing energy conservation.
"Our panel of judges found that these two winning stories were exemplary in terms of originality and in the execution of their ideas," continued Plaksin. "The tremendous response we have received through this contest sends a message that everyday is Earth Day, and that everyday, anyone can make a difference."
Project: EarthDrive, a partnership with American Forests, was spearheaded by ATP as a mission to help environmental restoration efforts. With each EarthDrive sold, ATP and American Forests will be planting trees both on a national and global basis to protect, restore, and enhance the natural capital of trees and forests. One acre of forest puts out four tons of oxygen, which equals to meet oxygen needs of 18 people in a year.
The ATP EarthDrive is manufactured using revolutionary new bio-recycled materials. In addition to being recyclable, the EarthDrive retains durability features unique to ATP flash memory products. Built with ATP's SIP (System-In-Package) technology, all vital flash components are completely protected from water, dust and shock. The EarthDrive packaging is also made of recycled paper and recyclable materials.
EarthDrive is available through ATP distribution and retail channels such as BestBuy.com, Costco.com, Douglas Stewart, International Supplies, Virgin Megastores, and Walmart.com in 1GB to 8GB densities with MSRP ranging from $19.99 to $79.99.
