Microsoft SQL Server 2008 is a major update to its enterprise database product and is currently in CTP-6 release. Although no launch date has been officially stated, the final release of SQL Server 2008 is said to be slated for Q3 2008. For developers, new SQL 2008 features include new data types, such as geospatial data types and date/time data types. In addition, Language Integrated Query (LINQ), integrated full text search, sparse columns, and large user-defined types are improvements that help build next-generation data-centric applications.
