Seattle, WA (PRWEB) June 5, 2008 -- Pima Medical Institute, 9709 Third Avenue NE, Suite 400 in Seattle announced Mary Sandstrom has been hired as the Program Director of the Physical Therapist Assistant program. Physical Therapist Assistant is a new occupational associate degree program for the Seattle campus and the first classes began in April, 2008.

Sandstrom, who has extensive experience as a Physical Therapist, holds a Bachelor of Science and a Doctorate degree in Physical Therapy from Boston University. She is a long-time resident of Seattle, which will be useful as she searches for and establishes clinical sites for PTA students.

"Mary's enthusiasm, experience and commitment are a perfect fit to head this exciting program," said Carey Hochman, campus director for the Seattle career college. "We encourage anyone interested in the program, as well as those who are employed in the occupational medical areas such as massage therapists, speech therapists, personal trainers and physical therapist aides to find out what we have to offer."

According to the U.S. Department of Labor's Bureau of Statistics, employment of physical therapist assistants is expected to grow much faster than the average through the year 2012. Physical Therapist Assistants assist Physical Therapists in patient procedures such as: exercise for increasing strength, endurance, coordination and range of motion; instruction in carrying out everyday activities in the use of assistive devices; and the application of massage, heat, cold and light to relieve pain, increase function, or improve the condition of the muscle or skin.

The Seattle campus opened in 1989 and offers programs for Dental Assistant, Medical Assistant, Medical Administrative Assistant, Pharmacy Technician, Phlebotomy Technician, Physical Therapist Assistant, Radiologic Technologists (Occupational Associate degree) Veterinary Assistant and Veterinary Technician (Occupational Associate degree).

PMI is one of the premier medical career colleges in the western United States. The privately owned, accredited school provides students with a well-rounded education embracing theoretical classroom studies, as well as on-site training at medical facilities that mirror the working environment they will pursue after graduation.
