Milton Keynes Dragon Boat Festival - The Results
The seventh Milton Keynes Dragon Boat Festival sponsored by electricity4business and held at Willen Lake yesterday was a spectacular success with a record entry of 60 crews (over 1,250 competitors) and an estimated 14,000 spectators enjoying the sunshine and a fantastic day's racing.
(PRWEB) July 2, 2008 -- The crews, representing businesses, organisations and groups of friends from all over Milton Keynes and the surrounding area battled it out all day in 5-boat races over a 250m race course. Eventual winners were Lifestyle Express representing Landmark Wholesale who won a closely fought final with Provide Consulting in second place, thecentre: for serious heroes representing thecentre:mk in third, Chicken Balls representing Admiral Business Systems Ltd in fourth and Brinklow Barbarians from Kuehne & Nagel in fifth. The Brinklow Barbarians from Kuehne & Nagel were also the top mixed crew.
Kyrin's Super Heroes from Friends of Kyrin won the Charity Trophy and a fabulous meal out at The Dragon Boat restaurant, pledging over £4,700 of a total estimated at more than £17,000 for nominated Festival charity, Keech Cottage Children's Hospice. thecentre: for serious heroes from thecentre:mk won the trophy for 'best dressed crew' and the two teams representing Schuco International won a special trophy for 'most enthusiastic crew' donated by Cathy McManus in memory of her late husband Pat McManus (a keen local dragon boat paddler).
Merklyn Hauck of organisers, Gable Events, said "This year's Milton Keynes Dragon Boat Festival was the most successful ever with a record number of participants and spectators. Even racing ten dragon boats rather than the usual eight we had to turn a number of companies away because of the event's popularity. electricity4business played a major part in the event's success in their second year as title sponsor and we are very grateful to them. We also appreciate the additional support given by Horizon Radio for their great event coverage, the Dragon Boat restaurant for the top fundraisers' meal, Ruths Floral Design Studio for the winners bouquets and Inside Business for the souvenir programme".
