Hundreds of advocates calling for a real alternative to open-ended occupation of Iraq will take part in a nationally coordinated action this Fourth of July.

As the July 4th holiday is approaching, the sixth Independence Day celebration since the invasion of Iraq, we must remember the duty we have as Americans to do everything within our power to stop our government from carrying out immoral policies that endanger the lives of Americans and our neighbors around the world.

Hundreds of advocates calling for a real alternative to open-ended occupation of Iraq will take part in a nationally coordinated action this Fourth of July. Volunteers with Peace Action West's campaign, No Soldier Left Behind: Rebuild Iraq, Rebuild America will gather signatures on an open letter that the group will present to the president-elect soon after Election Day. Neither of the presidential two front-runners have committed to a complete withdrawal from Iraq. The group will deliver the message that Americans demand quick action to replace the failed occupation with a comprehensive plan that includes a "diplomatic surge" and economic and humanitarian aid to restart Iraq's economy and provide relief to the millions of Iraqis that have been forced out of their homes.

What: A nationally coordinated action to gather signatures on an open letter to the next president. Participants around the nation, from California to North Carolina, are signing up to gather signatures at Fourth of July events in their hometowns.

When: Friday, July 4, 2008

How to Join the Action: Participants may click here to send an email to Rebecca Griffin, Political Director, to download a PDF of the letter and let her know you will be participating.
