Motorsport Enthusiasts Converge for Parr Cabinet Outlet Fourth of July Regional Races

Round Five of the Fluge Global Adventures Road Racing Championship features Double Header Sports Car Club of America races, Pro Drive Spec Racer Ford Championship and Rally Against Parkinson's

Portland, OR (PRWEB) July 4, 2008 -- The Parr Cabinet Outlet Fourth of July Regional Races kick off with practice and qualifying on Friday, followed by two complete sets of regional races Saturday and Sunday at Portland International Raceway (PIR).

This weekend marks Round Five of the Fluge Global Adventure Road Racing Championship for sports racing, formula, production, touring and vintage road racing classes, and is sanctioned by the Oregon Region Sports Car Club of America (ORSCCA.)

Also scheduled this weekend are two rounds of the Pro Drive Spec Racer Ford Championship, with races scheduled for 10:45 a.m. Saturday and 1:30 p.m. Sunday. There are a total of 32 drivers competing in the championship, with Bryan Ward leading the current point standings over top ten drivers Chris Jackson, Dan Halloran, Steve Fogg, John Tipton, Gary Manchester, Johnny Humphreys, Jim Flynn, Mark Goodman and Tom Burt.

The popular GT2 class has Matt Crandall ahead of Andrew Foley and Jim Walsh by just 13 and 20 points respectively. Also contesting the class championship are John Zupan, Ted Anthony, Jr. Greg Pierson, Bud Reichard, Doug Shapiro, Jay Culbertson and Jan DeRie.

The always exciting Spec Miata class has Gary Bockman with a one point lead over Ken Sutherland, and just four points ahead of Will Schrader. Rounding out the top ten are Bruce Wilson, Alec Osenbach, Joey Atterbury, Brian Richards, Matt Schultz, Jim Graffy and Thomas Ferrara.

Practice and qualifying begin Friday at 9 a.m., with racing set for Saturday at 9 a.m. and Sunday at 11:10 a.m.

Running in conjunction with the race weekend at PIR is the Rally Against Parkinson's on Saturday, which includes a Regularity Run at 1:10 p.m. on the race track. All proceeds from the rally are contributed to Parkinson's Resources of Oregon.

The weekend's festivities will be highlighted with the ORSCCA's annual All Club Party after Saturday's race and rally events, which is sponsored once again by the Pro Drive Racing School.

About Oregon Region SCCA

The Oregon Region of the Sports Car Club of America was established in the 1960's and has grown to its present membership of over 1,200 members. The Region obtained its charter from SCCA in 1962. It is a member oriented and operated club with the primary purpose of "promoting, maintaining and improving automobile sports and interest in the ownership, operation of, and safety of sports cars."
