Two-day event is designed to teach business school students how to excel academically and professionally from day one.

The purpose of MBA LaunchPad is to cultivate a sense of perspective in incoming students and to provide an opportunity to make unique and valuable contacts before classes begin

Veritas Prep, a leading GMAT prep and MBA admissions consulting provider, today announced plans for its inaugural MBA LaunchPad event August 5-6, 2008 in New York City. Designed to better prepare incoming students to excel in their chosen business schools, the two-day boot camp-style event will predominantly address proven success strategies for first-year MBA students.

"The purpose of MBA LaunchPad is to cultivate a sense of perspective in incoming students and to provide an opportunity to make unique and valuable contacts before classes begin," explains Chad Troutwine, co-founder and CEO of Veritas Prep. "The first year of business school can be overwhelming. We will show students how to land the perfect summer job, excel in the MBA curriculum and make the most of their networking opportunities, so they will hit the ground running when they arrive on campus."

Held at New York University's Kimmel Center, MBA LaunchPad 2008 will feature programs led by both professors from elite business schools and by MBA alumni who have successfully navigated the business school job hunt. Unlike standard orientation programs, whose focus lies primarily on honing subject area skills, MBA LaunchPad will offer step-by-step advice on how students can make the most of their two years in business school. It will also grant them access to some of the most important academic minds in business education, prominent decision makers at competitive employers and peers from other business schools.

MBA LaunchPad 2008 will offer opportunities for both large and small group interaction through a series of panel discussions and interactive academic sessions. The sessions will address three topic areas: academics, careers and student life, and will include:

  • Six academic sessions led by professors from some of the world's elite MBA programs;
  • Three career panels featuring MBA graduates who have landed jobs with top firms in competitive industries;
  • Student panels featuring current business school students who will provide insight on maintaining balance in the intense business school atmosphere; and
  • Social events to enable and encourage networking amongst attendees.
