Carnival Parade in Hartford

West Indian group will bring live International entertainment to their week long celebrations. The entertainers will include Lil Rick on August 9th and Sparrow on August 2nd.

Hartford, CT (PRWEB) July 9, 2008 -- The West Indian Independence Celebrations group plans to add spice and variety to their 46th anniversary parade for the independence of many nations in the Caribbean. This awesome event will offer up to $5000 in cash awards for the best float, masquerade band, dance troupe, and drill team. Monies will be divided between each category. Last years winners included Air Jamaica and The Caribbean Dance Troupe of Hartford. The Parade will be held in the capitol city of Hartford, Connecticut on August 9th starting at 11.00 A.M. at the corner of Albany and Main and ending at 3580 Main Street(Fuller Brush Building) with judging of participants and a free outdoor concert. Patrons will be entertained by Soca sensation 'Lil Rick', Mr. Easy, Sharmain, New Release Band, Black Ice, Black Hustler, Steve Love and other area superstars.

Other events during our week of activities beginning July 31st include a "Carnival on the Bloomfield Town Green", Jamaica Night at the West Indian Social Club, 3340 Main, on August 2nd, then Guyanese Night on the Wednesday, and All Island Night on the 8th, both of which will be held at the West Indian Social Club.

On August the 2nd from 1PM to 10.30PM, The Taste of The Caribbean & Jerk Fest will be going on at Mortensen Riverfront Plaza in downtown Hartford. This marks the 3rd year for the Festival which will showcase the Mighty Sparrow, Karen Smith and many other entertainers.

The Celebration Committee is presently accepting applications for the Parade participants, both marchers and vendors. Completed application forms with fees (money orders and bank checks only) must be received by July 29th, 2008.
