Johnny Prytko Promotes Polka for over 50 Years

Johnny Prytko, a Manchester, Connecticut native, was recently featured in Manchester Life for having promoted polka with his radio show and polka bands for over 50 years.

Manchester, CT (PRWEB) July 10, 2008 -- Johnny Prytko, a Manchester, Connecticut resident, was recently featured in Manchester Life for continuously promoting polka for over 50 years with his own polka radio shows and polka bands.

The reason Prytko feels so strongly about polka is because, as he said in the feature, "Polkas are happy, like a healthy dose of medicine."

Prytko has been playing polka since his father bought him an accordion when he was 13, and has since then been in the polka bands the Polka Dukes, The Connecticut Hi Tones and The Good Times Band, which have recorded 6 albums of polka music and appeared in various polka festivals and dances throughout the northeast and east coast.

Prytko began promoting polka via radio waves in 1984 when he and friend Ted Niehay were commissioned to start a polka show at WINF an AM radio station in Manchester. When the program ended in 1988, the duo went to WWUH, the University of Hartford FM station in West Hartford, Connecticut.

The radio show, Polka Madness, features a variety of music from old pop favorites to a mix of Polish, Slovenian, French and German music. What really keeps Prytko's show interesting is the fact that he advocates songs with English lyrics and a variety of styles of music because he realizes that Polka, like every other type of music, must adapt to fit the times.

About Johnny Prytko:
For more than 50 years, John Prytko has been playing and promoting polka music with his bands and on the radio. Prytko has been volunteering with WWUH, the University of Hartford FM station in West Hartford, Connecticut, where he has a radio slot time in which he plays authentic Polish, Slovenian, French and German music.
