Flight Centre North America and its corporate division, FCm Travel Solutions, is pleased to announce that G.A.P. Adventures is the first winner of the company's Sustainable Tourism award established to recognize the industry supplier that has made the greatest effort to minimize their environmental impact. The award was presented to G.A.P.'s Sheralynn Berry at Flight Centre's annual black-tie Ball held in Vancouver on July 5, 2008.

G.A.P. was chosen because of their commitment to remaining environmentally responsible by supporting locally owned businesses, using local transportation and incorporating community-based ecotourism projects into its tours. Additionally, their recent launch of Planet Positive Project, representing the company's plan on becoming impact neutral as well as the sheer breadth of initiatives at every level of the company including staff offsetting of their own emissions, carbon offsetting being offered to clients, the company's head offices being 100% green powered and 100% of the staff participating in the clean air commute, helped distinguish them from the other worthy candidates.

"We were extremely pleased by not only the number of proposals submitted by different travel partners, but also by the quality of effort being demonstrated by each in their dedication to lessening their impact on the environment," said Greg Dixon, President of Flight Centre North America. "This is a very important issue in which we need to continue being an industry leader."

"We pride ourselves on our core sustainable tourism philosophy, world volunteer projects coordinated through our NGO Planeterra, and our commitment to corporate 'green' and 'eco' initiatives and practices," says G.A.P Adventures CEO Bruce Poon Tip. "We are humbled and delighted to be recognized by Flight Centre with their Sustainable Tourism award, and look forward to working closely together to continue to do our best, and give something back to the incredible communities that we travel to on our tours. Flight Centre can be equally proud that they have made a difference by choosing G.A.P Adventures."
